Oaklands School 1964-2014

Oaklands school had its 50th Anniversary this year.It opened in 1964.The first principal was Mr. Anderson.For the 50th Anniversary Oaklands school had new gates that had written on them 1964-2014.

There was  a production called Who Cares We Do put on for the Jubilee.it was based on Oaklands school in 1964 one charecter was the first caretaker Mr Mcseveny,and the first prinicipal mr Anderson.the production told the story of how they were looking they were looking for the 4 discs if they did not find them would be a curse put on the school for a hundred years.luckily they found 3 discs and the last one was found in someones belt.they sung some very good songs.Joshua in my class sang my way is apathy,he sung very well.

Measurement

We are learning about measurement is maths at school.I am learning about the perimetre,area and angles of shapes.

100WC Week#8

Since ancient times the elderly man had stood between the same two trees. No one knew the truth about him and his burnt charcoal cloak.
So one day a curious little boy decided to find out the truth, but when he arrived he discovered a statue. Puzzled, he tapped the statue's eyes to find them starting to blink.

"Aaahh,'' shrieked the little boy.
He ran away stunned at the sight of a blinking statue.

That night he saw someone peeking through the window.
"Go away and don't come back," yelled the frightened little boy.
"What was that?"asked his Mum.

THE MAGIC PUPPY AND THE OLD BEARED WIZARD.

There once were two boys who were both 12. There names where Bob and Elvis. They were both adventurous. They decided to visit Satin beach one misty day.

When they arrived there they saw a old wooden cart and a cart track leading out to sea which they had never seen before. Since they were adventurous they decided to go on the cart for a ride. So they hopped in but they could not see in the distance because it was misty.

The cart rolled automatically down the track.

"STOP"Yelled Bob. 

"Why"Asked Elvis.

"Because there is a tiny puppy on the track"Answered Bob.

When they got closer to the puppy they discovered it was crying."

It is crying because it is lost"Elvis told Bob.

They hopped off the cart to help the tiny puppy. Then the puppy rose off the ground.The sky suddenly lit up and thunder and lightning appeared scaring us. Straight away the puppy came down and the thunder and lightning stopped. The thunder and lightning started again. An old bearded wizard appeared in front of them.

"YOU THIEVES"shouted the wizard.

He threw a red fireball at them. The fireball killed Bob and Elvis. The old wizard took his puppy back home to his magical palace underwater.

Ballantynes Fire

In 1947,on the 18th of November there was a big fire at Ballantynes. This is important event in Canterbury history because 41 people died.

Fire

At 3:31 the fire started in the cellar.One of the salesman was told by an woman employee there was smoke coming up the stairs.They made a 2 calls to the fire brigade one at 3.31 and another at about 

3.45.The fire brigade arrived at 3.47.A civic Funeral was held at an Anglican Church on the 23 of November 1947.

History

In 1854 Ballantynes was founded by Mr Davidson and purchased by John Ballantyne in 1872.In 1883 A Timaru branch was opened Then it moved to its current place in Timaru in 1913.

Earthquakes

Ballantynes was badly damaged in the 2011 earthquake.But no one died in Ballantynes.They close the store but reopened it on the 29th of October 2011 after many $1000's we're spent modernizing the building.

Conclusion 

The Ballantynes fire was one of the worst fires in NZ history but they have rebuilt and still got a very nice and successful store.

Rebuilding and repairing the original (A) would cost between $104 million and $221 million and take 6-22 years to do so.

The traditional building(B) would cost between 85 million and 181 million and take 5-22 years to do so.


the modern choice(C) would take only 4-9 years and cost between 56 million and 74 million.                                           .

On the 29th of May 2014 the year 6's of Oaklands school went on a Rebuild tour

I really enjoyed the rebuild tour.

On the Friday the 6th of June I had my first game of winter sport

We played at Nunweek Park.My team lost 10-nil but we played really good.I was right forward in the first half and left forward in the second half. I didnt actually change postions I changed from left to right because at half time we changed direction.

On Tuesday the YR 5-8 from Oaklands School trialed for a Winter Sports team.I trialed for hockey.I hope I make a team.Tomorrow the teams are announced.

Hi,Welcome to my learning blog.This is my blog where i will show all my learning.

We are learning about the elements and techniques of painting.

We are able to share cultural identities through the arts.

Step 1. We chose what we wanted to draw (eg.Koru) and planned it.

Step 2. We painted our draft copy with primary,secondary and complementary colours

Step 3. We outlined our drawing  on an A4 piece of paper. Then we put it on one of the four squares and drawed on the other side then we  repeated it 3 more times

Step.4 We then painted our painting with,Black and White with coloured or grey background,complimentary (eg. yellow and purple) Analogous 3 colours next to each other on the colour wheel. monochrome 3 different shades of the same colour (eg. light green,green and dark green)

Step.5 We then outlined our drawing with black vivid and black paint.
